In the Gospel of this 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus raises a hymn of praise to the Father: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.”
Who are the wise of this world? They are the proud, the self-sufficient, and those who close their hearts to the newness of the Kingdom of God because they think they already know everything. On the other hand, the little ones are the humble of heart, those who recognize their own smallness and dependence on God. The mysteries of God's love are not attained through academic titles, but through the simple faith of a child. Thus, Christ himself invites us to open our hearts to receive God's wisdom, so that our witness of faith may be true.
Of course, the Christian walk is not easy; we face many difficulties and challenges. Therefore, Jesus shows us that we can find a safe dwelling place in his humble heart: “I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light,” says the Lord.
Embraced by the Sacred Heart of Jesus, may we also be humble of heart, open to the true love that generates life and peace.
