"Jesus said to the disciples:
“The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good into buckets.
What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age.
The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”
“Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.” When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there." (mt 13:47-53)
Today's reading is taken from the gospel of Mathew, chapter thirteenth , today is July 14... here we are
celebrating the middle of summer. I'm sure we all have heard the phrase....Where are my car keys..... we're trying to rush out the door and we miss-placed our keys....... Looking everywhere..... eventually we find them and our lives are at peace
“Martha, Martha, you anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part…” (lk 10:41-42)
Have you ever thought of how important are actions are? Of course we think about them when we are dealing with major live decisions, whether it’s moving, settling down, finding a job. In all these things there is an emphasis on the decision we make and the actions we take.
Our lives are filled with decisions. Every moment we are challenged to go one way or the other. Sometimes the decisions are simple, even unconscious.
Today is the memorial of Sts Joachim and Anne (or Anna), the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
We know very little of either of these two people. Some information is from the apocryphal letter of the Apostle James which was never officially accepted .
We know that Anne was of the tribe of Levi. Her father was the high priest Nathan and her mother was named Mary. Perhaps that is where Our Lady’s name can be traced. Little is known of Joachim. They didn’t have children for a long time. They prayed for a child and then Mary was born.
“Whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave…..the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as ransom for many.” (Mt 20: 27-28)
"The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?”
He said to them in reply, “Because knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand." (mt 13:10-14)
"Say not, 'I am too young.'...Have no fear before them, because I am with you" (Jer 1:7-8).
“Why are you weeping?” (John 20:15)
“An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign,
but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.
At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and there is something greater than Jonah here. At the judgment the queen of the south will arise with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon;
and there is something greater than Solomon here.” (mt 12:38-42)
“In all the baptized, from first to last, the sanctifying power of the Spirit is at work, impelling us to evangelization.
In virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples (cf. Mt 28:19)
"A bruised reed he will not break, a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory." (Isaiah 42:3)
‘Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry, how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering, which neither he nor his companions, but only the priests could lawfully eat?’ (MT 12:2 – 4)
"But your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise;awake and sing, you who lie in the dust. For your dew is a dew of light, and the land of shades gives birth." (Isaiah 26:19)
"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6).
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midsthad been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
forTyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.” (mt 11:21-22)
" Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth?
I have come to bring not peace but the sword" (MT 10:34)
"Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth...so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will." (Isaiah 10a-11a)
“Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, holding an ember that he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with it and said, “See, now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.” (Isaiah 6:5-7)
“Behold I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.” (MT 10:16)
“Lord, may the joy and truth of your unconditional love transform my life that I may witness it in those around me. Grant that I may spread your truth and your light wherever I go.”

Let us pray, dear Lord in the moments of doubt when society tells us that you are not you give us the strength to stand firm in our faith and turn the sound of their accusations into praise and prayer so that one day they too may be praising you.
“Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.”
